Ring Ring Ring

Recess Week!
As usual its gone in an unaware flash.
I enjoy recharging myself although its just a week.
Sipping my kopi every morning just makes my day closer to completion.
Disregarding school related stuff, I love my break =)
Watched a long-awaited concert, went to Sing after a hiatus of 6 months, caught up with "long-lost friends", exercising, caught Benjamin Button/Slumdog, watched Oscars LIVE (probably the last year I can)...

SlumDog being the Oscars underdog is truly not too bad, okay its probably the hot fav at Oscars but I dont really care about that as I was rooting for Benjamin Buttons, which only managed to garner three pathetic small awards, leaving the biggest pie of the night to Slumdog. Well, I do like the way the story unfolds, through the Milliondollar game, through the protagonist's childhood, but it kinda fails to touch me as much. Maybe it's the problem with the Jamel (protagonist) stoic expressions which I failed to comprehend. I thought that he could have portrayed more emotions, especially the last scene when he reunites with his beloved gal. The storyline is great. Alas, it could have been prefected with solid acting from veteran actors from Hollywood instead.

On a sidenote, Im elated Kate Winslet won after 6 awful nominations. It's such a long wait for her. The irony is that I have no plans to catch THE REader. To digress a little more, I thought that Cate Blanchett was near perfection in Benjamin Button and she was snubbed of a nomination while Brad Pitt got nominated.

ON a further sidenote, I wanna share a song here, sang by YOGA in his concert.
天使的侧脸, the lyrics are as follow:

不管云会变成雨点
不管人怎会忘记诺言
世间的善变
你总谅解

陪你聊一夜年轻岁月
随你走一圈内心世界
看见了久违
天使的侧脸

有些了解 你来门前
为何星星就出现
照亮了我失落的那一年
爱你只有高兴的眼泪
从你眼中看伤悲
总有新体会
靠近你也靠近纯真岁月
听你也听见美好世界
看你就看见
天使的侧脸

Simple Pleasures of Life

I confess that I do not have a voracious appetite, but I do enjoy savouring the finest pleasures of life =)

It's one of my rarest time to high tea... probably less than 5 times in my life.

Fruits help digestion to allow for more.

Any Chocolate is palatable, increasing my happiness level momentarily =)

YOGA LIN

The best concert I have ever seen in my life ! Its not Emil Chau, Jacky Cheung, SHE, Stefanie Sun... it's Yoga Lin You Jia =) I am not biased just because he's my idol, its really so. For someone who is only 22 to showcase such a splendid performance which is totally his style, I am not overrating him. YOGA is unpretentious, true to his own music and persistent in delivering good performance to all his audiences. Maybe some of you are still not familiar with this name, and I will highly recommend you to listen.

Spicing up the concert are Olivia Ong and SHE. Both are terrific as well, especially Olivia whose LIVE rendition of 如燕 is much nicer.

Still have to thank XX for the chance to view the concert !

Elated~

I feel BROKE!

This sucks. All along Im quite nonchalent about some stuff. Even for jobs. Its not what I like anyways. I guess it's really a matter of no choice. There's just such a disparity between realism and practicism, and ultimately, we are left with conformism, which is so distasteful.
And guess what? I feel so broke that I wanna gobble up all the money in the world !!!

ROAR~

Scale the Heights

My first marathon of the year! Or rather, it was my first Vertical Marathon in my life. I have never climbed 60 storeys continuously before. I believe there is a first time to everything and there is simply so much to try in life (excluding vices of course), which explains my excitement in experiencing anything new. The downside to the event is that the reporting time is 630am =(

Anyway I am really glad we all made it to the top of Republic Plaza last Sunday, we guys clocked around 14 or 15min. All I can say is that it is an experience which is ENOUGH, just ONCE in my life. That should explain the experience of climbing vertically. The 20-40 storeys portion is most arduous, where you start to see some light after the 45th storey, and it doesnt help at all that there are keepers located at random levels to try to provide limited encouragement (and probably sniggling in their hearts how silly these people are). No views at the 60th storey, just drinks and its down by the lift. Thats how fast the 15min of modest effort is diminished.

Looking fresh before our turn~
IN the midst of catching our breath~
Mission Accomplished~

Feeling still energetic after lunch at Amoy, some of us headed to Marina Barrage. My 2nd time there!
This picture makes me think how small and insignificant we are on Earth~
I like the meaning behind this "art piece"... What comes around goes around...
I need more spice in everything. More adventure. More experiences.
Gimme gimme more~

Life Glanced Backwards

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Time waits for no man, regardless of whether it is moving forward or backward. Brad Pitt plays the character of Benjamin who deviates from normality the moment he was born. As the life of people around him plays forward as they grow older, his life unfolds backwards in the opposite. Adult issues as morbid as death stare at Benjamin in the beginning years of his life as an old man, and he learnt about the departures and fragility of life then. The film depicts the notion of what life is, and how certain issues in life such as death, age and disasters are all beyond the control of human.

Notwithstanding that, it also depicts how timeless love can be, between two people whose life advances in contrary to each other, where they realized that even though there comes a conversion point somewhere in their lives, there will ought to be a diversion thereafter. Particularly poignant is the scene where Brad Pitt's character showcases what it is like to let go, when the time calls for it after realizing that he cannot provide a normal life to Daisy (Cate Blanchett). Equally heartwrenching is when Blanchett's character epitomizes what timeless love means by showering Pitt's character with unconditioal love as he undergoes huge transformation.

For a film which garners 13 Oscars nominations this year (just one short of the record 14 nominations by Titanic in 1998), it totally did not fall short of my high expectations for it though the 166min runtime was a little draining in the beginning. The film encompasses what a Best Film should have, especially Pitt and Blanchett stellar performances which has totally blown me over. Their seemingly innate onscreen chemistry in this film totally outshines that in Babel. I thought that the film has many depressing moments and my heart sank many times throughout the screentime as it's not diffficult to visualise the predicament and agony of the characters. And the most amazing and worth-mentioning point is that you will be totally in awe of how Pitt and Blanchett is able to play the wide range of their ages convincingly yet subtly different at different stages. Don't miss it ! Catch it in cinemas =)

It's all about doing the right things at the right time under the right circumstances...

In awe~

A Wheel of Time

Flyer ! How exciting to be on the highest observatory wheel in the world for few moments. I have not seen Spore at night from such an angle before, and I am glad to have the chance to go on it with kx and kel. And we were glad that there was no "time extension" for us! Thank god.

I never know Sheares Bridge has such a beautiful structure to it...

For tourists, they should come to Spore and go on the Flyer only after the IR is completed as the picture is too incomplete now with all the constructions ongoing. But for me, I am nonetheless satisfied with my 30min nightime spent inside.

Satisfied~

FB is Amazing

I found my pri sch P1 crush! She was MIA for so many years since I last saw her at the age of 14 and finally, she surfaced again yesterday all thanks to something called FB where another of my pri sch friend sent a "Friend Suggestion" to me after adding her.

Its so amazing as we were all clueless what she have been up to in her life after so many years! And I wrote on her wall to obtain an affirmation that she still remembers her P1 crush. It was very childish in Pri sch where we will say bf or gf loosely. She will leave paper-made "art" such as Piano, table, chair etc made from those squarish colorful papers that sell in a pack on my table as she walked past my table in class and it was definitely embarrassing having to recall that I once kept a picture of her in cheongsum (which she gave me one day) someone in between my textbook (still dunno what a wallet is probably). Yes that's how P1 behaves then.

And probably the worst part that follows after our "romance" in P1 was that she one day (if I am not wrong in P2 or 3) demanded that picture back (I reckon at that time its over for us, but I was not feeling bitter at all as I had a new-found romance in P2). How Sia Sway, then.

16 years. Thats how much we have grown up numerically.

Reminiscence~

Pensive

I am in a pensive mood. Its the effect of the night again. As usual, my midnight jog never fails to uplift my spirits and it's great for Endorphins release.

306 presentation was good I thought. After so many presentations in NTU, the jitters of presenting kind of dissipate when it's my turn to hold the helm. But I suck at presenting ! There are so many people who can present well in NBS. Owells.

Just to sidetrack, I don't really like my other project group. Got a guy who talks alot, another scheming guy, and there is no group dynamics. Doesnt help that there are ex-school mates inside. And it sucks to end project work in NTU like this !

As for now, I just aim to end the semester with a high note, though its kinda futile. It's personal achievement, not so much of what people see it. And plan for grad trips. It's nice to be disgressed with the planning stuff in the midst of the night.

My contradictory state of looking forward to end of semester sets in again. What's new?
It's all about choice at the end of the day~

My 2nd Ox Year

The 2nd Ox year of my life seems to undermine the harsh reality of my age. I remember when I was in JC, I will feel that people above 21 are old but now that I am in this stage, I do not really feel any different simply because my peers are all growing with me. And with age, I guess most people will agree with me that CNY simply gets more mundane and it's more of a holiday for us rather than complying with the custom and purpose it ought to be.

Visiting was minimal this year but I am still glad to be soaked in the mood in gatherings with friends. It was graet to be able to catch the Wedding Game and All well ends well. Do support the wedding game starring Fann and Chris.

I am always grateful to friends who have no qualms in loaning their house for gatherings, so this time Gp V had one at kelvin's place. It's such a comfy place to simply slack in !

And we totally over-estimated our appetite as there were so much leftovers from the steamboat. I like the feeling of having steamboat !

And Lou Hei as well ! Sakae Yu Sheng wasn't too bad~
It was the usual gossip HTHT session which never fails to make my heart thump at certain sensitive questions~
And great that most of us got a lift home late at night, all thanks to our host !

Managed to go to Ray's place on Sat as well. Must thank him for his invitation to sample his mum's Prawn Mee. And I was fortunate enough to touch the majong tiles briefly before I left !
Happie Bday to Lynn! BFG just had a high tea session at Waraku with Lynn for her celebration. Why does it feel like we are having bday celebrations very frequently? I dislike the feeling that its getting more routine than it is intended to be.
Have anyone tried the Chocolate Truffle Cake from Ce****? It is awesome and it's my current infatuation.
Moooooo~
