Karlsruhe/Black Forest - Day 4
Karlsruhe is close to the black forest, where we intended to go in the morning. The black forest is Germany’s greatest forest, where cuckoo clock and the legendary black forest cakes originate from. It’s interesting how it got its name, supposedly because the densely concentration pine trees in the forest look dark due to the shadow of the mountains nearby. And it’s a myth that witches and dwarfs lurk there, and where Hansel and Greta lost their way.
We went to this city called Freiburg near the black forest 1st. It is a pretty small german town, with nice houses and streets. We saw the landmark of the city, a 13th century cathedral. Then we took tram and bus to where the cable car station is. And we took a cable car up to Schauinsland, the summit of the mountain where we get a panoramic view of the surrounding black forest. Freiburg City
It was a scenic cable ride despite the heavy mist. The serene surroundings and beautiful pine tress made up for it. It was surprise that there was a fair crowd at the summit, where most drove up with their families to hike or simply immerse in nature. The scenery was awesome, for the 1st time I dun see mountains around but tress yet it doesn’t feel any less pretty. I felt so close to the sun, & so near to nature. I wouldn't recommend this place unless u r a nature lover. Haa. On the cable car up
The Black forest pine trees
Right - what looks like the path to heaven
The clouds are really beautiful
I love the tress combined with the bluish sky. Bottom left: Crystals of water on the grass. When was the last time u actually admire the trees in yr surroundings?
The ride down was more scenic as the mist has cleared
The nice & quiet city of Freiburg
We took a one hour train to Schluchsee, another small town an hour away by train. There were many people who traveled to Schluchsee for hiking, and enjoy the nice scenery. Indeed, I felt so comfortable when I reached the town that I was totally immersed in the picturesque scenery, the scenic river with the black forest in the background.
The sun was overshadowed by the cloudy sky, thankfully some rays managed to penetrate through the gap.

Schluchsee - the pretty little town
We had a late lunch cum afternoon tea at a café nearby as we got to try the legendary and famous black forest cake in this region. We shared a cake and a waffle. The cake was not bad, as I was never a big fan of this cake. The waffle was heavenly, tasted differently from the Belgium ones. Am I enticing u? LoL.
After Schluchsee, we basically had dinner at back at Freiburg then back to Karlsruhe to take a train to Stuttgart, our last stop for Germany.
