Berlin – Day 2 & 3
Spent the morning in Hamburg before we left for Berlin around noon. It was a short 90 min train ride to Berlin.
I never had a great impression of Germany before I saw Hamburg and Berlin, thanks to the pseudo impression I got after seeing Munich. Berlin has surprised me greatly. The capital of Germany is one of the city’s with the richest culture and history, especially so with the fall of the Berlin wall, world war 2, east and west divide. It is modern yet historically rich. It is an advanced and developed city.
And it has possibly one of the nicest main station in Europe.
After checking into our hostel, we went to the city area to buy tickets for Mamma Mia musical at night. Yes. We planned to catch Mamma Mia in Berlin, no doubt its in German. Luckily there were still seats available when we reached. I missed it when it was shown in Spore years ago.Left - The remains of the Berlin wall being exhibited
We then went to the most famous landmark in Berlin, the Brandenburger gate and the Reichstag. The former, we feel is much nicer than Arc de Tromp in Paris. The Reuchstag is a historically significant building, being the parliamentary house. We queued for more than an hour just to get up the Reuchstag, where there’s a good view of the city at night.

We had a quick asian dinner followed by going for the musical. And we were the only Asians in the theater. Haa. Everyone else must have thought our German is damn pro. Yeah everything, including ABBA songs were in German. It’s a different experience watching a musical in a foreign language, but the music was great and it was entertaining.

Yea we had late supper! Asian Fried noodle in a box. I saw a cinema showing 2 movies I really wanna watch badly. Tony Leong's LUST and STARDUST. Im missing it~
Early morning we went in search of the Berlin wall near our hostel and we did find a stretch of wall, near the Berlinwall museum. I guess we were mad, searching high and low for what Germans aren’t proud of, the wall which caused the divide.
Then we quickly proceed to Alexanderplatz, where we saw the Berlinder Dom and Fernsehturm(just a tall tower). Weather was bad, kept drizzling.

After that, we went to Checkpoint Charlie, a legendary boundary between the east and west. It is a damn touristy place, museums, sourvenir shops and tour buses were all there. Nearby the checkpoint was another stretch of the Berlin wall, preserved by the government and open to public viewing.

It was really a mad rush. We went to the Brandenburger gate and the Reichstag once again to take pics in the day. As usual, loads of people. Then we had to rush to the main station to buy postcards before rushing back to hostel to grab our bags.
My obsession yet again~
Much nicer in the day than night~
Despite all the mad rush, we still missed the earlier train to Frankfurt so we just had a good Asian lunch to wait for the next train. We shared a Duck Noodle, which cost S$14(Gap).
And then, we took train to Frankfurt.
It was already pitch dark when we arrived at Frankfurt, the commercial city of Germany. There is nothing much to see in Frankfurt as it mainly consist of commercial buildings. Therefore, we merely went to the shopping street to walk for 2 hrs before heading to Karlsruhe, where we stayed for a night.
The hotel at Karlsruhe was fantastish! It’s the best we stayed so far. Nice rooms, toilets, internet to use and great reception.
Black Forest next~
