My favourite month of the year :)

Not so much for obvious reasons, but rather it means a brand new year is awaiting me. Can't wait.

I was randomly reading through old blog posts and I must say I am totally astonished at how amateurish I was 5 years back when I started this blog. It was all about projects and outings back then, fresh from ORD and the start of uni life. Now I am 2 years past graduation and slogging in the working force with totally different set of priorities in life. Where do I wanna be in 5 years from now? I wish I am happier, healthier and richer.

Let's count down to year end together :)

The Perfect Storm

Hello, how are you?

2011 is almost gone in a blink. This year has been extremely eventful in all aspects and I feel like I have done so much stuff. After going so many countries, my conclusion is that I cannot tahan Singapore's climate. That itself is a strong push factor for me to work/live in a cooler climate in time to come. That said, I do enjoy the sun when I am out at sea/water. Ambivalence.

I guess other than going Orchard road, there is much more to do around Singapore, more to explore. I need to engage in more active activities.

Travelling is an escape. It's ironic to feel that it is an escape as this reflects how much we want to get away from our present lives. I guess it is only till the day when I see it as more than an escape can I say that my life is satisfying. That said, I am grateful for the many opportunities I have when it comes to trotting the globe.

Where next? I want to explore more of Scandinavia. Norway & Finland. More of Eastern Europe. Prague, Budapest, Warsaw. The Meditterranean. Greece. More of US definitely. LA, San Frans, Vegas. More of South America. Peru, Brazil. More of the Carribean. More sunny islands. This list is definitely not exhaustive.

I wish that when I see myself 4 years from now, I will feel that my life is more fulfilling. But for now, I will enjoy the moment :)

I'm Back

It has been a good 5 months or so since I last blogged. So much has happened over this long span of time. I went to a city I have not been to before, had some of the nicest dim sums of my life, met up with friends whom I do not see as regularly like before, started tuitioning kids, had some really challenging work experience, and last but not least, embarked on a new journey :)

It has been extremely challenging for myself, and I am really elated that I have come thus far. I am proud to say I earned the opportunity and I will make the most out of it in the next few years. I have goals and dreams I want to attain within the next 2 years and I seek to achieve them very soon. Working is not as easy as completing your work on time, it is a hell lot of networking and social skills. The next few months of 2011 will be pretty exciting for myself :)

Nonetheless, there are downs in my life as well. I am disappointed with some people, people whom I see as close friends and yet being insensitive and you wonder why.

That said, if there is anything I have learned the hard way since graduating from school, it is that it doesnt matter how long you take to get to where you are, what matters is that you got there by yourself.

For all who are with me the past one year, sharing my ups and downs, tolerating me, bothering to organize meetups and who have always stand by me, I love you :)

P.S: pls continue to leave your message at the tagboar, I have no idea why those spams are coming, it's really irritating. Lol.

Paparazzi

I need strong reasons to blog lately and this is definitely one strong reason, Canon Photo outing. Thanks to Canon, I finally get to experience my first ever photo outing with other enthusiasts. And the whole climax is when we are going to be accompanied by the 2 most charismatic actors in Singapore currently, Thomas Ong & Chris Lee. No regrets going for it !

It is still quite hard to believe that I can experience such close interaction with my idol since primary 4 in such an informal occasion. Idol Ong is so easy going and friendly that he totaly win over most of the peeps that day. His recent channel U drama with Jessica Liu is so well shot, I am really very impressed with the high standards of the drama and needless to say the superb performace delivered by them.

Chris Lee was more detached, in my opinion. But still, he is one good actor.

It's good to have idols in life, as it makes you feel there are so many awesome people around~

Not 兔 much

I am so glad to have caught Rabbit Hole alone, not that I mind having some company in the theatre but it's kinda surreal to watch a movie by myself after some time.

This must be one of the most underrated film of the year. I totally love Nicole Kidman. She completely consumes her character and gave such understated yet compelling performance. Coincidentally, I watched her in The Hours (2003) alone as well. I can totally relate to the movie, unlike the King's Speech. It's a simple story of how a couple come to terms with the loss of their 4 year old son and yet the way the film unfolds is amazing.

If only Natalie Portman is not running for Best Actress this year, Nicole Kidman will stand a high chance.

The Oscar Fever

Less than 2 weeks to the biggest film awards, it's gonna be so exciting with James Franco and Anne Hatheway hosting.

Still contemplating if I should catch True Grit and Winter's Bone.

Meanwhile, these are the movies I have catched lately:

How do you make a movie out of a guy who struggles in the last apparent 127 hours of his life? Making that possible in itself is a feat for Director Danny Boyle. I must admit the film gets a little stagnant at some points, afterall this is a one-man show by James Franco whom I feel is fairly competant in his portrayal. It feels like a documentary for the most part of it and certainly not for the faint hearted who cringes at the sight of blood.

Popcorn: 3.5/5

I certainly do not quite understand the whole loads of accolades for The King's Speech. It is a not bad movie but there are certainly better films (like Inception), I think? I just feel that it is overrated apart from the strong performance from its cast. And Colin Firth is much better in A Single Man as compared to this. It does feel a little draggy at certain points as well.

It's a Great Great Night

The CNY mood has died but it's still not too late to blog about it :)

Annual steamy affair with the 5s, this time round at Emma's place. There was a great deal of food and it was too much even for 9 people. It feels cosy to meet up during CNY, and I am glad we made the effort this year again to pre-arrange everything. Kudos to Emma for volunteering her house and the great effort in preparing everything :)

Managing Expectations

Sometimes I can't help but wonder what is the whole purpose of doing what I am doing and still not able to meet expectations.

And of course that leads me to ponder on my aim in my LIFE and what really matters.

WQ forwarded me an sms today that this guy from NTU who is one year my junior is having his cremation tomorrow. It comes as a shock to myself though I was not close to him. I do remember him as a bright and friendly guy back then. Taking about the fragility of life here.

My troubles and worries are so insignificant compared to this and this makes me think harder on what I really want to achieve since life too short to even waste 1 day doing something so unnecessary or unimportant.

Together

I am feeling so sore right now after four days of revelry, and I mean sore throat and feverish. I have only myself to blame for gorging myself with so much Fererro Rocher which I can't resist. Hazulnut is so awesome.

Four movies in four days, this is probably a new personal record. But I think I can really be a full-time movie critic with so many awesome movies coming up as the Oscar season draws closer.

MOVE... ies

Before I get down to the new year, here are my personal movie reviews these few days.

It's a Great Great World: 4/5

A movie which belongs to all Singaporeans. This is the one movie which contains the collective memories of our forefathers, our parents and our grandparents. The dialects which belong to Singapore and the familiar faces which we see on TV so often. I cant believe all these dialects will probably be gone in the hands of my generation and below. Support Kelvin Tong and local productions, catch this heartwarming show. And sideline, Olivia Ong is so pretty.

Homecoming: 3/5

I shouldn't be surprised that Jack Neo is the limelight and in my opinion the funniest with his malaysia accented dialogues. Othewise, I think the whole show is overly skewed and catered towards the market over the causeway with the heavy Malaysian cast and accent. Just imagine our Singapore actors passing off as Malaysians. Still, it's also considered half a Singapore movie, so can still consider catching it if you have time to spare. Else, give it a miss.

All's Well End's Well: 3.5/5

Leave your brains at home for this show. The strong cast is the main draw, arguably all the current A-listers movie stars in HK are in this show. I never knew Louis Koo has such a knack for comedy shows. Cecelia Cheung is charming as always and her pairing with Louis Koo is simply too eye candy to resist.

Breathing Life

I managed to go down to Art Stage this weekend and I must say it's quite an eye opening exhibition in Singapore itself. I would not label myself as an arty fartsy guy but I am open to all kinds of experimentation and exploration. It is good to take one step back sometimes to think about how we can express meanings though art works. Some of the works on exhibit are simply too abstract for me to comprehend though.

Twenty 11

10 Days into 2011 and I am feeling luckier? It's all about relativity.

2011 will be a blast, or rather I wish for it to be a blast. After lying at an all-time low in my life for 2010, it is time to reach a new pinnacle in 2011. This is not going to be an empty promise I make to myself (i hope so). It will be a year filled with great sense of achievement, satisfaction and purpose.

I know it is damn cliche and so not me to list down resolutions but still, it will be a good piece of evidence for myself when I look back at this entry on 01.01.2012 at how much I have realized what I have penned down for myself at this moment.

And in no particular order of importance,

1) Picking up new skills (at least 2)

2) One really long holiday trip

3) To grow my current portfolio 3-fold

4) Network - It is never really my call but I will do my best at it.

Let's all scale to greater heights in this new year =)

A Red X'mas Celebration

Xmas was awesome with the V peeps, especially in a house which reminds me of Angsoka 9, minus the private pool. Hello friends, let's make this a yearly affair. I think I laughed the most on Xmas Day throughout the 365 days of the year. My cheek and face was seriously numb from all the wild laughing.

Our potluck was a success if not for the overdose of Chicken ! And I was really excited from seeing Emma's 933 Golden Pillow as it's my first time seeing it and tasing the curry, for a moment I had the impulse to put my ears to it... lol

The Beachy Affair(s)

I am counting down to the end of 2010, really excited that this "extraordinary" year is coming to a closing chapter. There are simply too much stuff going through me these few months that leaving a note on my pathetic blog was the last thing on my mind. Still, there is always a reason to make a fresh comeback to my space here, and I shall attempt to resurrect it by filling it up with events happening in the past few months.

I was happily engaged in beachy affairs with Jay, Nuan, WS and Jac on 2 separate occasions in a span of 2 months.

Life is always like a beach with them around =)

It's a "rare" outing with the 43 peeps. I deemed it rare as it has been donkey years since we hanged out in this combination. Indeed, it's a fairly diverse combi. I'm not trying to be Royston Tan by giving this post a number title. I really love 13 too much, so much such that it has already marked many mildstones in my life, from then till now, and never failing me miraculously.

I try not to regret upon my decision each time but that itself is more often than not an irony. I guess it's not how fast you reach a point, but rather how at ease you are with the journey. Are you happy? Do you dread the very moment when you wake up? That is the balance I am trying to seek. I guess for the time to come, I will achieve that, regardless of the longer time I have taken =)

I have never felt so unhappy in my life until this year, seriously. I felt like I have been taken this emotional rollarcoaster, much worst than the ones in Universal Studios. People who know me fairly well should know how repulsive I am to such thrills. It has been a false front I am constantly portraying to the outside world.

And then I also come to realise there is really alot of effort to be made to every friendships or relationships. At every point of our lives we are close to certain friends, just so because we go through that phase together. But really, are these friends those whom we can see ourselves with 10 years down the road? All the holidays, outings together at those phases are merely pseudo relationships which are so susceptible to falling apart when everyone begins the next phase of their lives and maintains minimal effort to keep up with the friendships.

To all friends who are still around, in some way or another, and obviously I do not mean by being virtually around this dormant blog to keep up a friendship, really thanks for all the little effort you have put in to keep the friendship going. I totally understand how hectic and tiring working/schooling life is but I guess you just need that minimal effort to keep things alive.

And to all those who still care, I will share my little simple joy (amidst all the unhappiness in the whole of 2010) with you when I see you.

Hiatus

I didn't realise the absence of blogging till I see the last date blogged. Almost a month. I am finally feeling lazy to blog and as some of you may feel the same, blogging comes with feeling and mood. And so. World Cup ended. It may be to the delight of some people that it has finally ended. I was chasing the matches almost every weekend and weekday whenever I can. Sad that my Argentina got booted out by Germany. I rooted for Netherlands too and it lost in the Finals. Feel like I jinx whichever team I support.

But july was also such a mad adrenaline rush for me. A stressful month for me too. So many things on my mind. So many issues to deal with. But thankfully, one coupled with fair share of fun and gatherings too :)

我怀念的

I can never emphasize how the past one year has gone by unknowingly. In retrospect, it seems like so much has happened but in fact nothing ever did. It seems like I am still back to the same point in life once again. It's tough making certain life-changing decisions. Some people struggle with them, some like me are too nonchalent to be bothered sometimes. Of course, there is always a price tagged to any decisions.

If there is anything I miss most, it's all my crazy travelling. I guess the best travelling is one where u dont need to plan much, do what u feel like everyday and definitely not rushing from one landmark to the other and try to cover Eiffel/Notre Dome/Lourve in a single day. That's just crazily rushing and when u rush its a challenge to relax. Isnt that what holidays should be? Slowing down your pace and take in the sights and breathe life like any other locals.

Sex & the City

NO doubt the characters aren't young anymore, I must still say that I do enjoy the show. Nevermind about the lengthy 148 minutes as I'm still visually treated to the opulence in the movie and of course all the high end fashion to the smallest details.

Some films are not meant to be taken seriously. There were moments where it might seem overly stereotypical but it was still quite laughable.

And yes, we should all live up to some of the moments, wild or not, like the 4 protagonists.

Heartfelt Wishes

Congrats to Kai Wen, one of my closest Primary school friend who just got married. It's really hard to believe that 13 long and unknowing years has lapsed since we last left our beloved May Primary School which has already gone bust. Still, the memories I had in my Primary School was never erased.

I really enjoy the feeling of attending weddings, seeing how a couple finally walk down the red carpet together...

And really happy for Kai Wen too for finally finding the guy who will take care of her for the rest of her life. If Im ever going to start a business, I think I will make a competent Wedding Planner. Haha.

That aside, its really amazing to see Kai Wen so pretty and dolled up on her wedding day as she is quite a no frills no make-up kinda gal I know, very easy-going and nice. I guess many people are unaware that we were penpals too for some good 4 or 5 years after we left Primary school where we will write to each other by snail mail on a weekly basis at least. That lasted till my JC days when MSN killed all of it =(

And the most astonishing fact about us has probably got to be that we were once each other crashes some 13 years ago... Those were the days where everyone simply crashed on everyone. She(and her husband) doesnt know my blog's existence so its ok for me to spill the beans. Lol

So much glamour and glitz on the Red carpet but the hosts really suck at asking questions and made some of the celebs look so awkward.

Still, Fann looks gorgeous in her Greek goddness outfit. She plays up her screen goddess aura wrapped in a slinky, shimmering toga dress from US fashion brand, Halston.

Shutter Island

This film literally blew me away from my seat, and definitely for reasons other than the hurricane experienced in the movie. I shall not say much about the plot, as I watched it with zero expectations and I did not really read any reviews prior to the show. The plot was so awesome I must say. The film was filled with thrills and it really set my already weak heart thumping as the plot unfolds itself and there was immense anticipation in seeking the ultimate truth for the progtagonist, so much mystery surrounding every character and Shutter Island itself.

Leonardo's stellar performance is totally worth an Oscar nomination in 2011. Being impressed with his acting is totally an understatement for him because it is a damn challenging role to portray. There are so many layers of emotions in every scene and I wonder how he can so convincingly convey his myraid of emotions, and especially so towards the ending which I shall not reveal. Every look in his eyes says so much.

I really love how the story unfolds and how the twist was brought about. Definitely one of the best thiller movie I have seen.

Hannie, you really should catch it if you can.

New Beginnings

It has been awhile since I was glued to the channel 8 screen at 9pm. Finally there is a worthy drama to catch after a long hiatus for me. I like the theme of New Beginnings as the story is built on two of the most important occasions in our lives, namely marriage and the more dreaded death. After catching two episodes since its debut telecast, I must say that the storyline is realistic and it offers a fresh perspective into our own culture and custom, be it for the red or white occasion. As what Jeanette Aw says in the show, we can choose if we want to get married in our lifetime but we certainly have no choice when it comes to death.

Highly recommended drama, and of course the eye candy cast is a huge incentive to catch it too =)

A Single Man

Tom Ford's debut directorial effort is certainly non-amateurish in my opinion. From a world leading fashion designer who has overseen Gucci & YSL, a Single Man is nothing short of perfection. The huge part of the credit certainly goes to Colin Firth's nuanced portrayal of George, the protagonist who has lost his lover of 16 years to an accident and his encounters on the last day that he decided he should live till.

The entire movie is shot at a rather laidback pace as it depicts the last day of a man who has decided that he has had enough of what he has been going through alone without his partner. From an Asian context, I can only imagine Tony Leung to portray Colin Firth's character. I must add that certain scenes and mood of the film has a rather Wong Kar Wai feel, such as the lighting of the cigarette and when Julianne Moore was applying her eyelashes. Firth is definitely one of the most underrated Hollywood actor who has been robbed of an Oscar in the recent Academy Awards, which went to Jeff Bridge. Another solid performance from Julianne Moore as well, another fine actress whom has not yet received the highest accolade from the Academy.

The ironic ending of the film certainly makes you lament for George, which simply shows how fate can play tricks with you when you least expect it.

A Wedding Affair

It has been econs since I attended any wedding dinner. Being the usual me, I was quite hyped up about attending one even though I do not know the married couple personally - my mum's cousin's son's wedding to be exact !

Kidnapped

Another local film up this week, by Kelvin Tong this time round. I think there are many talented film makers locally and it's kind of heartening that each one has their own style. I would rate the film a 3.5*. Personally, I feel that the pace of the story is good, and I must add that the background music does play a huge part in making my heart beat faster. The film editing is quite good as well, and the filming is certainly not amateurish. Phyllis Quek was surprisingly good in her role, but I was kind of disappointed with Chris Lee's overly facial focused performace. It was good in some scenes but it just felt too similar after seeing it in different scenes. If only he can be more subtle in portraying his anxiety & anger at different points and I will rate it more favourably =)

Still, it's a highly suspense thriller-filled film if you are in for some adrenaline rush. What's more, it's a LOCAL FILM =)

Certainly not Hurting

Weekday night movie with the partial V =) The film was officially released locally last September but was given a Re-run in theatres lately.

I have to say that I gotta agree with the Academy on The Hurt Locker. Seriously, I did have some expectations due to the accolades the film swept up recently but still, I am no serious fan of military genre film. The film turned out to be great, and I was really impressed with the sound mixing, as it played a crucial part in raising the trepidation in the audiences while anticipating when the next blow up will strike. I think the whole film is about Respect towards the bomb squad as in the movie, and I guess this is also regardless of whatever profession anyone is in.

Personally, I felt that most parts of The Hurt Locker was filmed realistically, and I really like the Cinematography. I was really curious where on earth the movie was filmed and true enough, it definitely wasn’t filmed in Iraq but in neighbouring Jordan, apparently just miles from the Iraqi border.

Apart from its Best Film & Best Director awards, it also won technical awards for Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing & Best Film Editing.

And the Oscar goes to...

Sandra Bullock! Her contenders are strong and worthy opponents, but what really made Sandra bagged the highly coveted Oscar despite this being her 1st Academy Award nomination for an Actress in a Leading Role is definitely because she is so likeable by all Americans, and everyone else. Indeed, if we look at past Oscar trend in this category, we have witnessed Julia Roberts in her defining role in Erin Brockovich, Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line, and now Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side. I can only say how much the audiences love to see an American Sweetheart in transition to an Academy Winner. And her winning speech is simply hilarious, typically her =)

Ironically, Sandra Bullock also picked up the Golden Raspberry award for the Worst Role of the year in All About Steve. She is really sporting, as she attended that ceremony the night before the Oscars and she said that she will keep her Razzie on the same shelf as her Oscar! LoL.

Up In the Air

There are really quite a handful of movies opening in cinema this week. Apart from Fann Wong's Happy Go Lucky, another show really worth cathing is Up In the Air (sidenote: my sis said Alice in Wonderland sucks). It's a really good show, definitely not a show merely on the premise of a guy whose life aim is to chalk up 1 million miles in flying points.

Personally I feel that the dialogues are very well-crafted. There is no lack of humor, especially if you have something for the acerbic kind of humor. George Clooney plays the protagonist whose job is to fire people at different cities in America. Due to the nature of his job, he grew to be rather detached to relationships, be it kinship or personal relationship. That was until he met 2 ladies in his life, one of which whom he had a rather complicated romance with no strings attached, the other which is his new female colleague whom he had to travel with to show her the ropes. Just when he changed the way he views relationships and life, things didnt turn out as the way he expected. I guess the Director's intent is to put across the message that life doesnt always turn out the way we envisioned .

It's definitely a realistic show with depth, and somehow I kind of see a certain portion of myself in Clooney's character (you have to watch the movie to find out).

George Clooney exudes this unspeakable charisma and he is my motivation to be like when Im his age~

This Flight is worth catching, 4.5/5*~

It's our home-grown director Harry Yap's first movie though he isn't exactly very young anymore. Let's lend our support and promote Singapore's Film making industry! Apparently due to the limited budget of the director, this movie is not as heavily publicised as the other local movie also up this week, so Im using this insignificant channel here to promote the film =)

Architectural Feat

Everyone is looking at lifestyle condo and not simply a roof over their heads. In a competitive sense, Im also glad that HDB has managed to surpass its own constraints in terms of design in recent years, moving towards designer HDB flats.

Ultimately, we all need more spaces in our claustrophobic city to feel less stifled. That certainly includes more city views instead of the typical options. The LVS project certainly looks very promising in terms of giving us all a 360 degree unobstructed aerial view of our city.

I must say the 牛year wasn't a fantastic one for me, as I went through some pitfalls in every aspect of my life. Seriously. Many decisions had to be made, decisions with possibly far-reaching implications which are unimaginable for myself a year ago.

Hopefully all uncertainties will dissipate soon and I can see the deep blue ocean sky once again!

Addicted

Finally done with 宫心计! Phew. Took me 5 days to finish the 33 Eps drama! The last time I chase a drama so closely should be 溏心风暴. Im so glad Im done with this show as it has become a convenient excuse to stay sedentary, which is obviously bad for the mind and body. To be honest, I think the ending is quite crappy. Still, I must say that 佘诗曼is quite convincing as the goodie 刘三好 in the show, though in real life she is really quite a b****.

Still, I think most audiences still love to see cat fights in any drama and all the bitching that goes on. But I think in terms of the show quality 金枝玉孽is still better.

Nonetheless, HK dramas rule over Korean or Taiwan shows, any time.

Awesome Drama

Seriously, I need to blog about this awesome show. It was a random thursday night where I had nothing to do at home and I feel the need to watch a good show. The Pupil came to my mind and I actually chose to watch it.

I have to say its probably the best quality drama channel 5 has ever produced since the Growing Up series (I made a mistake! Mediacorp does not produce this drama, its by this other local production company. I should have known better). Im so sucked into the show now! The acting, the lines, the story are all so well conceived and delivered. I totally love how unpretentious the whole show flows. It's hard to believe that Adrian Pang and Janice Koh aren't real life litigators.

Not to mention that Im so in love with Janice Koh. Seriously, she must be one of the most underrated actress in Singapore, and if you watch The Pupil you will get what I mean. She delivers her ambitious top-shot lawyer role with such finesse that you can't help but think why you have not noticed her previously. Seriously, she is nothing less than brilliant. And Im so proud that she is from VJ Theatre Studies previously, before moving on to NUS, London and New York for theatre studies and film acting! Rocks!

Sadly, the aftermath of the show is that I can't help but wonder if I should simply switch, and I mean profession. LoL.

For that, I will glady be the Pupil, as in Rebecca Lim.

你的周末过得好吗？

我还好耶，除了一连串的宥嘉活动外，周六夜也安排了一个聚会，就是和中学好友吃喝。

我们先是到了某个市区学府内富有食堂概念的餐厅吃晚餐，然后就很即兴地决定到Timbre去松懈。

一切都很好，我们的座位超棒的，而我们也各自喝了Heineken。

当天的乐团也娱乐性十足。好多Lady Gaga的歌。超high的。

可是呢，很不幸，在走回家的途中好像有一股魔咒似的，将我冲昏了头。

对了，就是一股烧，度过了一个挺难熬的夜晚 =（

然后呢，周日还得七早八早起身上课。真的可以用一把眼泪一把鼻涕形容。

农历年将近，我希望今年一切完美。

I am doing fine,apart from a series of YOGA activities, I also managed to plan a meet up with some good friends.

We went to this canteen-themed restaurant within this school premise in the city for dinner, and we actually also made an impromptu decision to head to Timbre for some Music & Drinks!

All was fine and we managed to secure great seats, drank some Heineken each.

The band that night was fantastic & entertaining, belting out many Lady Gaga songs, and got the crowd rather high.

Alas, while I was walking home, I could feel this sudden gush rushing to my head.

Yes, its the Saturday Night Fever, spending some unbearable moments on bed =(

Worst still, I had to rise to the sun on Sunday morning for lessons, making me tear and sneeze literally and really.

CNY is approaching fast, I just wish for everything to be perfect.

我对他另一丝的崇拜，莫过于在他身上看到连我都自叹不如的勇气和坚持。

那个对自己"宥式"音乐的坚持和想法，绝对称得上非主流音乐，但也不至于是小品。

Glutton, I am

Yes, Im a Glutton, self-proclaimed =)

Had the chance to savour Peking Duck after a decade probably. I had the faintest memory ever of my recollection of tasting the delicacy, so imagine my ecstacy when I finally had the luxury of recalling how it tasted. Inspired by a magazine, I went to this acclaimed restaurant in town...

Surprise as I didnt imagine that the chef will slice the duck in our presence~
Yummy! I cannot find a more suitable word to describe the fine duck, even the plate is so customized to the dish~
U have to forget the sinfulness the moment u placed your order~
The duck skin is certainly thin yet crisp to the perfect touch~
The joy of having the Peking duck is also partly because I get the chance to DIY, make my own roll =)

The service is personalized and excellent, tea is constantly refilled and the manager even checked to ensure food is satisfactory =) I will definitely be back for more.

After much procrastination, I finally went to the famous steamboat in Golden Mile. The place is famous for its chicken rice and pork chop as well. However, I think that its very much overrated!

The chicken rice, in my humble opinion, is less tasty than BTKee~

No matter what, I guess you will never know unless you try =)

Ugly Ugly, a totally brainless games which test your reflex & eye alert. Objective is to snatch cards which are similar once they appeared trice. Player with most cards eventually will win.

PANDAmonium, another brainless game. Basically there are 11 different actions of the Panda on the cards and players have to mimic the actions by remembering the 11 actions carefully once any card is revealed.

Again, I sucked at this ! I realise I'm really BAD at memory games =(

The more we get Together

I think Board Games are very interactive games, especially those which enable us all to reveal our scheming sides ! Been addicted to RPG strategic board games lately, and nope these games are definitely not boring at all :)

We went to YC house last weekend for games and catching up, been a long time since we met up with YC, who is still the same LOUD gal !

And guess what, our introductory game of the day is Chinese Scrabble ! Faints* cos I never knew such a version existed until YH brought it that day.It was certainly mentally challenging for me even though I love Chinese~

Thank god the next game CK brought along is so much more engaging and strategic, BANGS!

I guess most people have watched it already, so I shall spare the details. I am just so in awe with James Cameron, the latest film of the decade which he has conceived. When James Cameron steps in, even Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg & Michael Bay have to step aside.

I believe that 1997's Titanic has Wowed cinematics worldwide and his latest film certainly does not fall short of my expectations. The world of Pandora is such a visual treat that I have the urge to immerse myself in the natural world. The director has done a great job in managing every details from the fallen leafs to the flying dinosaurs. Interestingly, music and score of Avatar is made by James Horner, composer of My Heart will Go On.

Those who have not been treated visually by Avatar, what are ya all waiting for?

BFG Wala-ed for the first time at Holland V ! It was also my first time there and I must say the place is really much overrated. I thought the music was so-so but it certainly got better towards 12 am. The atmosphere made up for it though =)

The atmosphere in Holland V was quite awesome. Its certainly not as packed as town, yet its impossible to miss the suburban festive mood in the air.

Being BFG, our first resolution of 2010 is to EAT ! We went to the coffeeshop to have light dose of Zi Char. I was famished ! It was great catching up with BFG =)

JingleS All the Way

Had an awesome gathering with Gp V peeps on X'mas ! Really must thank our Host for volunteering his house! I really enjoy gatherings at people's house instead of meeting somewhere outside, it's so much more laidback and comfy =) It has been sooo long since we all met as a big group, and I realise I really love big gatherings. The feeling of seeing everyone is awesome.

We all chipped in to bring great food - famous chicken wings from Bedok, Pizza delivery, Delifrance sandwiches, Shepherd's Pie, home-made Jelly, loads of snacks and drinks and sparkling wines...

What's Xmas without the highly anticipated gift exchanges!

Personally I really enjoy this segment of the night. Its just so mentally stimulating to guess and bitch about what each of us will get, given the many rules which I have laid down, namely NO MUGS, No chocs, No Bodyshop products!

Climax of the Night: We all probably struggled with our breathes for at least 1 or 2 min as Sarah tried to explain to us her whole story behind the gift she had chosen. Before we can all hear her explain, we were already all exasperated !

Next round of FUN: GAMES!

Im so hooked to Saboteur now! It's such an awesome game which can accomodate a big group, that which involves some wit and strategy and yet more challenging and fun than playing Bridge. Wanna play it again. There was much fun in surmising everyone's identity such that we get to see one another's scheming side !

We even headed to nearby Jalan Kayu for late midnight prata around 2am to perk ourselves up ! And the irony was that it didnt really work out =(

Here comes the LAMENT of the Night:

I had been racking my brains on getting the BEST log cake available to treat everyone. I just wanna spread the JOY around and refused to settle for an ordinary log cake ! Yup I can get quite ANAL about meeting such expectations don't ask me why. Finally I decided on B&J after much consideration and called, enquired and rushed them to make it for me in 3 days as their Xmas orders are really very packed. I managed to secure an order with an outlet and had to rush to Great World to collect it on Xmas Day, and then sped my way to ULU Sengkang to put in the Fridge. In the end, everyone was so tired and didnt manage to sample it ! I felt so so wasted about it .

Nevertheless, it was still an AWESOME Night ! Loves Ya All !

Love this month in particular for the many holidays, half days, the festive air surrounding the month, and of course the many gatherings and meals which follow.

It's also my Bday month. Shall not mention the cliche Bday emotions but it's really true that the more wisdom I gain over the years, it's also when I discover who my friends are =)

I feel blessed receiving B'day wishes. I have this hierachy in my mind when people send their wishes via SMS, Facebook or Phone call. But whichever way, I still appreciate it !

Seafood

I dont use to fancy seafood but now I do =) Love cereal prawns expecially, in fact just the cereal will do.

Went for Xmas Eve dinner with family at this paradise place. The last time I was there was about a year ago with GP V peeps, and I must say the food has not failed my standards. Haha.

Season of Food

You know it sucks not to have a DSLR these days, when every plain Jane and Harry has it. It's totally evident in Orchard. Just walk from Taka to ION and you will be amazed at how a past luxury gadget has become everyone's toy nowadays. Except for me! Haha. Seriously everytime I pass some amateurish looking person trying to look Pro by a few notches with the DSLR in their hands, I can't help having cynical thoughts on their abilities to maximize the purpose of the DSLR because I can't help concluding that its so common these days since the price of it is so much more affordable now.

As for now, I shall remain humble with my Panasonic FX38 which is already past a year old.

I know there are a lot of food blogs around. I do not want to convert my blog into a pure food blog, but I can't deny that its fun to blog on food once in a while =)

Personally I feel that this year's X'mas lightings and decor in Orchard is one of the best in recent years. With the new malls like ION, 313 sprucing up and lighting the whole area, it has made this year's festive mood so much more lively =)

Salmon ! Really love it loads, especially salmon sashimi. I usually slide 2 or 3 slices into my mouth at a go, and usually chalk no less than 30 slices in a Jap buffet =)

Look at how thick the salmon is. Even though it's at a discounted price, the quality and portion is not compromised at all. Kudos to the new restaurant in town.

Been visiting this Jap restaurant in town almost on a weekly basis, the discounted sushis are simply too irresistible, as my friends will readily agree with me!

This is 20 pieces of Salmon in soy sauce on a plate. 3 of us ordered 40 of it for one of our dinner after work =) We are totally oblivious to the slightly stunned tone of the waiter when he confirmed our orders and we take it very much as something very natural. Lol.

And the bill at the end for 3 of us =)

I will gladly accompany anyone to have it again, just so as to satisfy my insatiable appetite~

SUM Joy

Treated my family to this chinese restaurant in town area, Dim Sum to be exact. I am constantly seeking out for new Dim Sum places and I do confess I have a very high expectation of it. I'm glad this afternoon isn't disappointing =)

I do have to agree that the Char Siew Sor is 2nd to none in SG so far for me~

Some really overDUED pics! Finally 4E2 of BSS 2001 batch have a formal gathering at Aloha Loyang, great to see some old classmates appearing once again. LoL. Really appreciate the organizers' concerted efforts in making it happen =) Played some Majong and it has ascertained that I have Zero luck in this game, which I wish to conveniently attribute it to my ambitious mentality.

Love the feeling of discovering something new, or the thrill of exploring. That's definitely one of Saggitarius prominent trait. It's even even more surprising to discover new places in our land limited country.

From a shopping mall in SG, this pizza probably probably has the highest mushroom density in SG, with a thin and crisp crust~

Spanish donuts with chocolate fondue~ Spanish donuts are still a rare treat in SG, its really good :)

From a restaurant in the East, this Egg Soup is one of its kind and the taste delights me~
Sour cream fries with pork cutlet burger, awesome~ The sour cream fries is probably one of its kind in SG too.

How about Nutella chocolate cake coupled with vanilla icecream for desserts?

Disastrous

Seriously give the world a break from such Disasters movies. It's kinda enough. In my opinion, Titanic is probably the best disaster movie ever made in history, cos James Cameron bothered to develop his characters so well in the show that it had earned so much tears and box office earnings worldwide.

We all get the global warming message long before the movie 2012, and Im sure all of us can feel that even in the safe Haven like Spore.

The effects are really WOW but in the end, what does it tell us?

On a sidenote, I really dont mind if the world ends on 12.12.12.

get REAL !

The 1st time was novelty, the 2nd round this time is familiarity... and I guess there wont be a 3rd time!

It's insane to wake up at 5+ to head to Changi Aviation Road for the crazy NB Real Run this year again!

6 of us signed up for it this year though eventually a dramatic twist brought only the 5 of us to the finishing line. Yes it's 15KM once again! Im surprised at myself for pressing on throughout and coming way below 2 hrs as compared to last year, though the adverse effects of that is the wear and tear of my knee cap till now =(

There are 3 parts to the REAL run. 1st 5KM is running on sandy trails, next 6KM on the hard concrete road, including a 400m run along the beach, which is the killer portion!

Still, its so satisfying to complete the REAL run that we treated ourselves to Crystal Jade at T2 after that, with the remaining afternoon concussed on my bed =)

It's not just about Food

It has to be for Meryl Streep =)

Probably the most versatile & recognized actress of contemporary times, she has really won me over with her stellar performances in various films. Think the Devil in Prada, Mama Mia!, the nun in Doubt and finally as Julia Child in Julie&Julia.

Everything about Meryl is Julia, and I wonder how her accent and high pitched tone comes about.

Some movie critics may have put Amy Adams down as she acts alongside with Meryl but I think she is still quite commendable. Julia seems too perfect to exist while Amy's portrayl of Julie Powell is someone much more realistic and real in the modern times which I can relate to. I can totally relate to the sense of loss she felt in her life, how under-achieved she feels as compared to her high flying peers and how she struggles to make a name for herself.

Julie Powell gives hope to all of us. Someone so ordinary who has achieved such extraordinary feat in her life after some perseverence, and telling us that Dreams don't Lie.

I feel hopeful after watching the show. It gives hope to people like me. Cooking or not, what matters is putting your heart and soul in it =)

Thinking Twice

I treasure weekdays meetup sessions more after working. It's like after being mentally drained and feeling angsty over work, I find it really comforting to be able to meet friends for a chill-out session, and it doesnt matter even if we meet for a short while.

I was feeling really angsty on thursday cos of work and Im so glad I took my leave at my own discretion (ideally Im not supposed to) to meet Gp V at Molly Malone.

I think I probably shocked you guys with what I said. I am temporarily taking back those words! LoL. Like after some 2nd and 3rd thoughts again. Guess I was too irrational and impulsive that night. A night of sleep does make me more sober. I will just take things as it is first =)

Anyways, we had dessert at TCC after dinner (which I didnt have much of an appetite. As a matter of fact, the void in my stomach was filled by the laughters we had).

Rah getting way too cosy in her comfort zone!

Thanks to Nuan's recommendation, we met up for dinner at this cafe. It's a totally hip place to begin with, by hip I simply find that it's such an exotic place! Over the course of my slow and relaxed dinner which probably spanned across 3 hours, I had seen a myraid of crowd of at least 10 nationalities in the area. I feel like Im in a zone so un-singapore, yet Im just inches away from the hustle and bustle of the city (the busy Main Road is really not too far away).

Dont we all love alfresco if not for the humid weather thats killing me in my shirt lately?! Thankfully The evening was surprisingly tolerable =)
